December 2012 Forecast

December will most likely be pretty warm. A persistent stormy pattern in the northeast Pacific, combined with indications from Siberia in October lead me to believe that much of the East will get a little warm in terms of temperatures. However, the North Atlantic Oscillation is likely to be negative during the month of December, if not averaging out neutral for the month. This means several opportunities for snow may arise in the Northeast during this month, and this region would most likely get one of the coolest temperatures for the month of December.

Short questions can be asked below.

are the un-highlighted areas suppose to be normal for precip and temp?

Yes.

Above normal temperatures = much below normal precipitation in most cases in Colorado, being that cooler temperatures follow along with precipitation in most cases, so a serious lack of precipitation in a drought stricken area would therefor lead to more heating.
In other words, this is not a good year to be a ski resort or a farmer in Colorado, because when you look at your forecast, it definitely suggests a further intensifying drought in the entire southwest and southern plains, not just persistence, but intensification.

Can anyone say, 2010-2011 La Nina-drought disaster all over again :(
As if the news couldn't get any worse.

Depressing, if you live in the west and southwest. Anonymous 2:05 and 2:10 I agree with you. Colorado, I live below your state in New Mexico, below normal precip for 2 years in a row down here. But, despite the forecast I believe based on my own observance that a couple of storms will hit us. Just hope they are potent enough for the mountains more than anything. But then again I have been here for the winters of nothing except an occasional dusting of snow. If this forecast pans out it is going to be a long fire season again. So the drought continues.
