Forecast Discussion: April 6, 2012

Hotspot of the Day: Upper Rocky Mountains
A frontal boundary and nearby trough will be moving through the northern Rockies, producing snow. This wide swath of snow leads me to think that this will be an accumulating event, and it does apear that a general 8-12''+ is possible in the mountains, with 1-4 in the lowest elevations.

Central Plains
A low pressure system with attached trough will move into the Central Plains today. Showers and the occasional thunderstorm are expected, but nothing too severe at this point.

Southeast
A large swath of rain and thunderstorms will move east today. No severe weather is expected.

Extreme Northwest
Some light rain and snow showers appear possible today in the extreme Northwest US.

SOI values continue to indicate El Nino. A wet winter for the East is virtually guaranteed.
